2016 Sunday Parkland Games
Get ready to play!
Join us for the 8th season of
Sunday Parkland Games!
The Sunday Parkland Games provides individuals and families the opportunity to get outside and be active in the Charles River parklands. Since 2009, the Charles River Conservancy (CRC), in partnership with the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, has offered free games on summer Sunday afternoons.
People of all ages and abilities are able to participate in over 25 free games and activities that are set up and facilitated by our partner, Knucklebones a local athletic and events company. They provide equipment and instruction for a variety of games— including paddle ball, parachute, corn hole, and frisbee. An agility cube, hula hoops, ladderball and potato sacks are also among the many offerings. The game equipment is sized for children as young as 3 through adults. From 5pm to 6pm, Cambridge-based Karma Yoga Studio conducts a one-hour yoga class, allowing both devoted practitioners and novices the opportunity to relax and stretch by the water. We hope to be joined again by Olympia Fencing Center, who provides demonstrations with their fencing members.
The games are scheduled in the late afternoon (3:30-6:00 pm), late June through September. This year, the games will take place for the first half of the summer in North Point Park in East Cambridge. In North Point Park, you will also find two playgrounds and a spray deck. The Lynch Family Skatepark is adjacent to the park. For the second half of the summer, the games will move to Herter Park in Allston. See specific dates below. The games will not be held on the holiday weekends of July 3rd and September 4th.
The Conservancy strives to provide recreational and play activities where community members can enjoy the river and the parklands in healthy, active, and innovative ways. All activities are free of charge and the program does not require registration – anyone can attend, and all are welcome to participate.
Please note: The Sunday Parkland Games are weather dependent, so be sure to check our Facebook page each Sunday for confirmation of whether or not the games will be held.
