Sunday Parkland Games

Thanks for 8 great summers!

The Conservancy will not be hosting Sunday Parkland Games in 2017. Although the Games were a popular parklands event, the Conservancy decided to put them on hiatus this summer. Thank you to our past sponsors, supporters and participants. If you are interested in sponsoring Sunday Parkland Games in a future year, please reach out to crc@thecharles.org.

For eight seasons (2009-2016), the Charles River Conservancy (CRC), in partnership with the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, offered free games on summer Sunday afternoons. The Conservancy strives to provide recreational and play activities where community members can enjoy the river and the parklands in healthy, active, and innovative ways. Sunday Parkland Games provided individuals and families with this opportunity from late June through September. All activities were free of charge—anyone could attend and all were welcome to participate.

Each Sunday, over 25 free games and activities were set up and facilitated by our partner, Knucklebones, a local athletic and events company. Knucklebones provided equipment and instruction for a variety of games—including paddle ball, parachute, corn hole, and frisbee. An agility cube, hula hoops, ladderball and potato sacks were also among the many offerings. The game equipment were sized for children as young as 3 through adults. For the last hour of the Games, Cambridge-based Karma Yoga Studio conducted a one-hour yoga class, allowing both devoted practitioners and novices the opportunity to relax and stretch by the water.
