Planning Experts Featured at October 19th Radcliffe Seminar on Future of Charles River

Newton, MA...September 26, 1999...Renata von Tscharner, Program Coordinator of the Charles River Conservancy, today announced her organization will present a symposium at the Radcliffe Seminars on the future of the Charles River. Entitled Visions of the Charles, the event will feature presentations by river renewal experts, an informative cruise along the Charles and a review of plans and policies for the waterway.

Visions of the Charles is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19th, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m. at the Radcliffe Seminars at 5 Ash Street in Cambridge (corner of Ash and Brattle). Registration cost is $90 ($75 for Charles River Watershed Association members and Radcliffe Seminar registrants.

"Thousands of people in the greater Boston community care about the future of the Charles River," said von Tscharner. "But with all the work and planning people have done, there is still a need for program coordination and careful consideration of options. The Visions of the Charles symposium is an opportunity for anyone who wants to be involved in this exciting work to get up-to-the-minute information and meet key leaders in the renewal process."

Featured speakers at the event include Karl Hagland, a senior planner with the Metropolitan District Commission, Herbert Nolan, a landscape architect with Goody, Clancy & Associates, and Robert Zimmerman Jr., Executive Director of the Charles River Watershed Association.

Along with the presentations and river cruise, a brief walking tour is planned. Maps and other learning aids will be provided and a box lunch will be served.
