UPDATE Swiss Beach Day at the Charles, Sep. 7th!The Consulate of Switzerland/swissnex Boston is partnering with the Charles River Conservancy on Sunday September 7th for the upcoming exhibit “Think Swim, Think Swiss: Bringing Swiss Style Swimming to the Charles River.” Join us from 2pm-5pm for an afternoon on the Charles next to the Weeks Footbridge in Cambridge, with games, music, snacks and a chance to win a free trip to Switzerland. Please click here for more details. Hub On Wheels EventJoin your fellow cyclists on Sunday, September 21st at 8 am for a citywide bike ride. Choose from 10, 30, or 50-mile courses. RiverSing 2008!Join us on Sunday, September 21st along the banks of the Charles to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox. Produced by the Conservancy in collaboration with Revels, RiverSing bridges the Charles with voice and light to create a magical evening, free and open to all. The gala event to honor the winners will be held on September 23rd at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on the Charles River. Red Line Speed Restrictions Lifted on the Longfellow BridgeOn August 8th, Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Commissioner Richard K. Sullivan, Jr. announced that DCR’s repair efforts on the Longfellow Bridge have progressed to the point where all speed restrictions on the Red Line can be lifted. Charles River Cleanup BoatStarted in June of 2004, the Charles River Clean Up Boat is a privately funded, 501(c)(3), non-profit organization whose objective is to remove the floating trash from the Charles River. Volunteers patrol the river several times a week during the spring, summer and fall, on their new boat, the LISA S, donated by the Lawrence & Lillian Solomon Fund. The Clean Up Boat, greatly improving the water quality and appearance of the Charles, removes more than two hundred bags of floating trash each year. For more information or to volunteer, click here. Publick Theatre Performance on the CharlesRunning through September 7th, the play "The Seagull" by Anton Chekhov will be performed at the Publick Theatre's unique open-air stage at Herter Park, right by the Charles River.
