CHARLES  RIVER  PARKLANDS  UPDATE
January 2006
Archives—Table of Contents

Thank you for your support!

Thank you to all of our supporters who contributed to our annual appeal. Your continued commitment is crucial to our efforts, allowing us to ensure that the Charles River Parklands become more active, attractive, and accessible for all.

Skatepark Update

The CRC has raised a total of $850,000 in gifts and pledges. At the reopened Green Line T station Science Park, the new MBTA map features the location of the future skatepark! Recent press includes an FYI article in the City Weekly section of the Sunday Boston Globe (1/22) and an article in the News & Commentary section of Bloomberg News (1/18).

Conservancy Volunteer Update

The Conservancy's stewardship program has begun another year aiding the parklands. January's three events have brought out the Boston Urban Stewards, Boston Cares Teamworks, numerous repeat conservancy volunteers, as well as a few new faces. Thanks to all our volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm. Our next public tree pruning events will be held on February 18th and 25th.

The Conservancy Volunteer program is a wonderful way for friends and colleagues to work together and improve a natural resource. If you would like to schedule an event for your school, company, or organization, please contact our Conservancy Volunteer coordinator Evan Moss at elm@thecharles.org or the telephone number shown in the column to the left.

Advocacy: Green Budget for 2007

The Conservancy, as well as many other organizations, has signed on to the Green Budget 2007 of the Environmental League of Massachusetts. For the first time in 5 years we have achieved a slight increase; however, we are still at 28% less than in 2001 and Massachusetts ranks 48th in environmental spending.

RiverSing 2006

Preparations have begun for RiverSing 2006! We welcome your input for this year’s celebration to improve upon this wonderful collaboration with Revels. Send your suggestions to crc@thecharles.org and plan to sing with thousands in celebration of the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd at the Weeks Bridge.
