Legacy Giving

Looking Ahead and Giving Back

Thank you for your interest in providing a legacy gift to the Charles River Conservancy (CRC). There are several ways that you can make a planned gift to the Conservancy including gifts by will or living trust, or designating CRC as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy.

GIFTS BY WILL OR LIVING TRUST
One of the simplest ways to make a gift to the Charles River Conservancy is through your will or living trust.  In addition to providing critical resources for the future of the parklands, they are simple to establish and help to ensure your estate is settled quickly, with fewer complications for your family and loved ones.

You can specify your bequest to the Conservancy as a particular dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, the residue of your estate or a specific asset such as real estate or securities. Bequests will be distributed after all debts, taxes, and expenses of your estate have been paid.

When your attorney draws up your will or living trust, the Conservancy should be designated as:

Charles River Conservancy, a Massachusetts non-profit public benefit corporation, with Business Address of 43 Thorndike Street, S3-3, Cambridge, MA 02141

CRC’s Tax ID Number is 04-3503656

CRC was incorporated on 6/9/2000

We suggest you specify that your bequest be “used in such a manner as the Board of Directors of Charles River Conservancy shall, in its discretion, determine.”

If you would like, you can provide the Conservancy with a copy of the relevant portion of your will or living trust so we can ensure that your wishes are carried out at the appropriate time. This information will, of course, be kept strictly confidential.

RETIREMENT PLAN BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION
To preserve your retirement assets after your lifetime, consider the benefit of using them through a planned charitable gift to the Charles River Conservancy.

The simplest way to leave the balance of a retirement account such as an IRA, 401(K), or other qualified account to CRC is to list us as the primary or secondary beneficiary or to designate a specific amount or percentage to give to CRC on the paperwork provided by your plan administrator.

LIFE INSURANCE BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION
You also can name CRC as primary beneficiary of your life insurance policy or as contingent beneficiary, should your other beneficiaries not survive you. After your lifetime, the benefits from your policy pass to CRC free of federal estate tax.
