Charles River Water Quality Commission

The Massachusetts legislature established the Charles River Water Quality Commission in 2009.   Sponsored by Representative Alice Wolf, the legislation directs the Commission to make an investigation and study relative to improving the conditions necessary to, and determining the feasibility of, bringing the water quality in the Charles River lower basin to a level safe for swimming.

The Commission held its first meeting in March 2010 and established three sub-committees:

1) Water Quality

2) Engineering and Technical Issues, and

3) Public Outreach.
