Current Projects Include:

  • Advocacy – The Conservancy promotes increased access, and better planning and management practices to enhance the architecture, landscape and amenities of the Charles River basin.
  • Conservancy Volunteers – We offer volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups (over 2,500 each year) who want to make a tangible difference in the Charles River Parklands through landscaping, clean-up, pruning, and planting.
  • Sunday Parkland Games – Every Sunday afternoon in the summertime the Conservancy sponsors free games and athletic activities for kids and families on the riverbank in Cambridge.
  • Swimming in The Charles – The Charles River was once legendary for its “dirty water.”  Now, thanks to improved water quality and the combined efforts of countless river advocates, we are working hard so that swimmers can again make a splash in the Charles River.
  • Charles River Skatepark – The Conservancy is partnering with the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation to build and maintain a world-class skatepark along the Charles in East Cambridge.
