A groundbreaking ceremony for The Lynch Family Skatepark has been slated for October 23.

Garry Waldeck tweeted the following screenshot – a picture of the groundbreaking ceremony invitation – at Universal Hub Friday afternoon, and it quickly earned a subsequent retweet.

The skatepark, which will be located under Boston’s Zakim bridge, received the final bit of funding necessary for plans to move forward last July – a $1.5 million donation, courtesy of popular sneaker company Vans.

The skatepark was the product of long-standing efforts by the Charles River Conservancy and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation. But Vans’ funding gave the project the final boost it needed.

The groundbreaking invitation says the event will happen Thursday, Oct. 23 at 9 a.m., rain or shine.
