Congratulations, skateboarders, BMX bikers, and extreme athletes of all stripes. Thanks to the shoe company Vans, a new skateboard parkhas the green light to begin construction, reinventing the patch of land under the Zakim Bridge.

In a shrewd move for the sneaker company, Vans will endear themselves to their customers by investing in them through the initial $1.5 million investment and an additional yearly donation of $25,000 to maintain the grounds.

The Charles River Conservancy intends to break ground on construction this fall. The BBJ reports that two major pro events a year will be hosted there. Known by a couple of monikers:Lynch Family Skate Park and North Point Park, funding has arrived from The City of Cambridge, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and the state.
